Meet Shana
I came to executive function first as a mom.
As a parent of seven children in a blended biological and adoptive family, I was doing everything I knew to support my kids. We pursued therapies, built routines, used visual supports, and practiced skills—but I was still carrying so much of the executive work for everyone.
I was constantly reminding, prompting, organizing, and trying to hold the whole system together. My children often knew exactly what they were supposed to do, yet that knowledge didn't reliably turn into action without an adult beside them.
Then I found the framework that changed everything: executive function.
Something finally clicked.
It gave language to the gap between knowing and doing—and it transformed the way I supported my family.
As I brought that lens into my work as a school-based physical therapist, I began seeing many of my students differently, too. What started as a personal journey quickly became the foundation of my professional work.
Then came another realization:
My executive function needed support, too.
That understanding brought more humility, greater compassion, and a deeper sense of peace to both my parenting and my work. I'm still learning. Still growing. Still practicing the same skills I help others cultivate.
NEST Collective grew from a desire to help families, caregivers, educators, and professionals find that understanding sooner—to feel less alone, make sense of what they're seeing, and build support that creates meaningful change.
